"Summer" Round 3, 29th November 2002 Charity Golf Day Red Shield Series As the Ashes test match got underway in Perth, the Red Shield Golf day was where the action was in Bunbury. TV Cameras and flashes everywhere as the social golf event of the summer teed off at The Sanctuary Resort and the who’s who of the Bunbury golf set.
A beach theme saw some pretty wacky outfits being modelled but various shapes and sizes; a dress standard marshals nightmare.
Major tucker started the day with a tropical beach food hall dinner in the evening to keep all fed and watered meaning the golf was almost secondary.
Captain Major Sergeant Neil Venables from the Salvation Army and his Bunbury team joined in the days golf and made all welcome as well as showing his thanks to the teams who came out to help all the causes which the Salvation Army run in WA.
Winners of the days Ambrose event were the local knowledge boys from The Sanctuary Resort. Capt Kim Host asking the Golf Gurus if next years event could be held for 144 players. Kim we are going to keep you to that number!
Runners Up were Clive Berryman from Berrymans Betta Electrical, Clive & his merry band of men were nothing short of brilliant on the day or at least that’s what Peter Tom told everybody!
In third place were Bunbury Holden, Gavin Billington & the boy’s scrapped into 3rd spot by .2, they later said it was no surprise that they came 3rd as they didn’t want to show up some of their clients.
The NAGA went to the local Salvos squad. Curling tongs seemed appropriate as they looked better than the score card suggested.
